Belem: Age of Discoveries – Half-day

Explore the rich history and iconic landmarks of Belém.
History & Culture

Description

Belém is a historically and culturally rich area known for its significance in Portugal’s history and its must-see attractions, located at the mouth of the Tagus River, it was here that many Portuguese boats set sail overseas in the 15th and 16th centuries toward the East. During the Maritime Discoveries period, the city became the center of a large empire, still visible in the monuments of the Belém section.

Both the Monastery of Saint Jerome and the Tower of Belem are UNESCO World Heritage sites, and we are not going to miss them. Both will be seen from the outside and the inside of the church of St Jerome. Also, superb is the Monument to Discoveries, an incredible stone boat showing the golden age of Portugal. In addition to the main attractions, Belém also offers a variety of fascinating museums and charming parks.

But going to Belem means we must take you to the most iconic pastry shop in Portugal to taste the authentic and unique Pasteis de Belem a local delicacy of flaky pastry filled with egg custard.

At a nice pace, you will enjoy the unique monuments and explore the rich history and architectural beauty of Belém while enjoying some of Portugal’s most iconic attractions.
